Best rare item from Diablo 2

by iam8up on Mar.10, 2010, under games

This is from the D2Classic mod by Todesengel – Killed by Evolution. A mod for 1.09d to replicate as much as possible from 1.06 – the good days of Diablo 2.

VMware ESXi 3.5 update 5 Poweredge 1750

by iam8up on Mar.09, 2010, under geeky, linux

Works perfectly fine for me. Stick in the CD, install it and away you go!

I was able to enable SSH access by
*vi /etc/inetd.conf
*uncomment the line with ssh
*ps |grep inetd
*kill -s HUP

Some x86 PCs that can be used as a workstation. Linux is sure to work. Windows isn’t mentioned on the embedded systems but the DOMs and little LCDs say Windows is supported.

Rook takes Pawn, Marine takes Taliban

by iam8up on Feb.24, 2010, under funny

A large group of Taliban soldiers are moving down a road when they hear a voice call from behind a sand-dune say, “One Marine is better than ten Taliban.”

The Taliban commander quickly sends 10 of his best soldiers over the dune whereupon a gun-battle breaks out and continues for a few minutes, then silence.

The voice then calls out, “One Marine is better than a hundred Taliban soldiers.”

Furious, the Taliban commander sends his next best 100 troops over the dune and instantly a huge gun fight commences. After 10 minutes of battle, again silence.

The Marine voice calls out, “One Marine is better than one thousand Taliban.”

The enraged Taliban commander musters a thousand fighters and sends them over the dune. Cannon, rocket, and machine gun fire rings out as a huge battle is fought..

Then silence. Finally one wounded Taliban fighter crawls back over the dune and with his dying words tells his commander, “Don’t send any more men, it’s a trap. There are two of them.”

Autojoin invite channels or multiple connect commands with Xchat

by iam8up on Feb.24, 2010, under geeky, linux, windows

Open the network list and on the server you want to do multiple commands with, specify the connect command

/LOAD -e .\profile\somecommands.txt

Then in somecommands.txt

/msg thebot !join foo bar
/timer 8 join #firstchaninvite
/timer 8 join #topsecret

For me I am start xchat with

xchat.exe -d ".\profile"

making the profile directory easy. By default it’s either in ~/.xchat2 or “%appdata%\X-Chat 2″.

XChat by Silverex for Windows made portable

by iam8up on Feb.24, 2010, under geeky, windows

Silverex’s faq suggests that you can copy and paste the example and run it. It doesn’t work for me and I believe it to be wrong.

I am using DropBox which should act exactly like a thumb drive. May cause havok with multiple clients running at the same time. I only use it on one PC but like having a backup.

I installed XChat to C:\Documents and Settings\jluthman\My Documents\My Dropbox\xchat

Then created C:\Documents and Settings\jluthman\My Documents\My Dropbox\xchat\STARTXCHAT.bat

set PATH=%PATH%;.\lib
start xchat.exe -d ".\myxchatsettingsdir"

Works for me.

UPDATE: There are TONS of questions asking how to hide the batch window while an executable called from a batch script is being run. Just invoke the executable with start.
